Lifetime 28-Quart High-Performance Cooler

The lifetime 28 Quart high performance is the smallest in their lineup yet. It is for people that cherish convenience and mobility that comes with a compact cooler.

Make no mistake, although the cooler is the smallest it’s not the weakest link. Yes, it is Rotomolded, and the internal walls utilize a 300lb foam that is evenly distributed for consistent insulation around the body.

Also, the overall body is made up of a heavy-duty polyethylene construction – not only is it a rugged beast but ice clinger as well.

This is a perfect unit for picnics and short trips –

 interior dimensions measure ; 15.5-17.6 in. L x 7.3-9.3 in. W x 11.5 in. And the exterior; 21.5 in. L x 13 in. W x 16 H.

Sure there are space limitations, but we are sure you know what you are buying when you go for this unit.

Transporting the cooler is a breeze; it weighs 17.35lb and has a swing handle which is comfortable in hands.

According to the manufacturers, their lifetime cooler holds ice for five days. Multiple ice tests results prove that to be true.

Men of style will be disappointed by the limited color option; even worse, the gray color is the only available outfit at the time of writing this article.

Lifetime 55 Quart High-Performance Cooler

This unit is perhaps the most sold lifetime cooler on the market. It is decently sized, has astounding ice retention, high quality and size makes it our favorite in the lineup.

Hunters will sure like having this at the back of the truck. It has enough room at 55 quarts, 52.04 liters and 19.5-22 in. L x 10.6-13 in. W 12.5 in. H and can pack more than 31 cans of beer plus ice.

Just like the 28 quarts, the construction is made of polyethylene making it just as robust, durable and retains ice better. In fact, many users have reported an average of 7 days before the ice in the cooler wholly melted. Of course, the temperature was around 42 degrees.

Transport is easier with the nylon ropes. But it could get uneasy when you are lifting it alone, including a molded-in handle under the lid just like yeti coolers could have been a no brainer.

In conclusion, this cooler qualities and size is a sweet spot for almost any activity; from hunting, tailgating, picnic, camping, etc.

Lifetime 75 Quart High-Performance Cooler

You are looking at the biggest cooler in the line-up. Not only in size but the best in retaining ice with up to 9 days of ice.

This cooler is big for a reason;

The large size allows you to store drinks and food while the ice long ice retention means it’s perfect for long getaways.

Made up of polyethylene, it excels in quality, ensuring many years of ice. Capacity wise – it boasts of 77 quarts (72.87 liters). Inside dimensions measure 23-25 in. L x 12-14 in. W x 14.3 in. H while the exterior is 30 in. L x 18.5 in. W x 18.5 in. H.

In terms of overall quality and function, this cooler leads in everything, this cooler weighs 29.95 lbs when empty. Compared to a Rotomolded cooler its size, the lifetime is lighter. Easy to travel with it has a nylon rope handle but heavy when full.

Design & Construction

We’ve said it in the opening paragraphs that this cooler is not Rotomolded. Some of you may have crossed this cooler off your wish list but don’t, at least not before you read the text below.

Well, it is not Rotomolded, and it is a blessing in disguise – but let us reveal why;

First off, Rotomolded coolers are thick and heavy as it drives its robustness and ice retention from this construction process. They are heavy and expensive to make, little wonder most Rotomolded coolers are above the $200 range.

Lifetime coolers, on the other hand, picked a cost-efficient way of building robust and long-lasting ice coolers for a budget.

Using polyethylene cut the production expense, resulting in a cheaper production process.

With exceptional craftsmanship, the polyethylene is a perfect substitute for the cost-intensive rotomolding construction.

Designed with some notches in the body, lifetime ice chests have a peculiar design.

Although they are not indestructible as Rotomolded chests; they are built with about 300lbs inch thickness to improve the durability.

As a matter of fact, it is certified Grizzly bear-resistant by the IGBC (Interagency for Grizzly Bear Committee)

The Polyethylene construction repels harmful UV rays from the sun, making it the ideal chest for your outdoor needs.

Many people have fears when using a cooler that is not Rotomolded, they assume anything but a rotomolded cooler is inferior. While your concerns are valid, lifetime manufacturers have created a preemptive 5 years unlimited warranty to put your mind at rest.

Features

Ice Retention & Insulation

The ice retention and insulation ability are hands down the best features. Remember that they are not Rotomolded but manage to outperform many high-end coolers.

They are consistent at holding ice for an average of 5 days across the models.

The exterior and interior are built with polyethylene. Furthermore, pressurized PE foam is injected into the hollow walls together with a high-quality gasket around the rim ensures ice retention is achieved.

The outer wall is rugged and has cut-outs that trap dirt. Aside that, it is an aesthetic build that makes it unique from the bunch of Yeti wannabees.

Again, depending on the temperature and how you expose the cooler, ice retention may differ from the manufacturer’s benchmark. We recommend users to pre-chill the cooler, use real ice with ice sheets, and don’t forget to keep it away from direct sunlight.

Overall, the insulation and ice retention of this cooler surpasses its price. There’s no doubt; this is bang for your buck.

Latches

Many buyers were impressed by the latch mechanism. It’s no surprise cause we were awestruck by how easy it is to open and close the cooler. Known as the cam latches, they are rubberized and allow for one-handed operation.

Even kids won’t have a problem flipping the latches open. If that is bad news, then you need to get a padlock to ensure grizzly animals or intruders never inside.

The latches seal the space between the lid and the base; this helps traps all the cold for longer ice retention. Overall, the latches are heavy performers and can hold against their own for many years of use.

Handles

Transport is a breeze and comfortable as well; the ropes secure correctly to the body and won’t snap even when the cooler is full. The 55 Quart and 77 Quart sizes are both equipped with nylon ropes; however, the 28 quart has a swing metal handle with rubber grips.

Comfort grip handles and a durable nylon rope ensures you will enjoy holding this cooler for extended periods.

On quality, the handles are durable. But rope handles are often tricky when lugging. A molded-in handle provides a more steady grip, and we wished there was one. We hope in subsequent rollouts, the molded-in handles.

Gasket

Admittedly, the gasket is part of the reason you can get up to 5 days of cold drinks.

While it may not receive any award, it does it work pretty well, which is to seal the lid and improve ice performance.

Drain

There’s nothing more satisfying than purging out melted ice from your cooler, especially when you have food inside. Lifetime coolers are constructed in a way that allows for quick water drain without completely tilting the cooler.

Furthermore, the drain has an opening that attaches to a hose. This comes in handy when you want to rid water far from your location.

Anti-Slip Feet

The Anti-slip foot is something you’d find only on the premium models, and hey the lifetime follows suite.

The Anti-sleep feet is quite underrated but an integral feature every cooler need. As the name implies, the cooler integrates feet with slide guards to keep the cooler in a single position.

But here’s what special about it;

It provides a grip and slide function. So you can move the cooler without taking it off the floor. Simply hold on to the side nylon handle and slide the cooler on a smooth surface. It’s like an improvised wheel that is not a wheel per se.

Lifetime Coolers Vs Yeti

It feels like all the review has been leading to this part;

Lifetime coolers Vs Yeti. Which is the best?

Price

If you are looking for the cheapest Yeti competitor online, then you should look no further. The cheapest lifetime 28 Quart is under a $100 figure. Compare that to the roadie, which is almost three times the amount. When it comes to price, lifetime wins it by a mile, and there’s no debate about that.

When it comes to cost-efficient coolers, the lifetime is among our top best brands on the market. These guys produce coolers with dirt-cheap prices.

Winner: Lifetime

Construction & Durability

The build construction is made of polyethylene, while Yeti utilizes the Rotomolded process in making their coolers.

Proethylene vs. Rotomolded – Which is stronger?

Lifetime coolers are made through a blow-molded process, it is not as thick as Rotomolding, but you get a similar effect.

The major problem with lifetime coolers includes the weak lid. It’s also not watertight as many tests have revealed water to trickle from the opening. Its inability to prevent leaks is the direct effect of the loose gasket.

Yeti coolers are every inch thick and durable, the tundra line of coolers have a freezer-grade gasket around, and the lid seals properly. Again, some users noticed that lifetime coolers were susceptible to scratches and warps over time.

Considering the price point, then the criticism should be lenient considering they cost a fraction of the Yeti.

Overall, in terms of construction and durability, the Yeti wins as the buy for life product if you don’t want to go back to the market for a new cooler some years down the line.

Winner: Yeti

Warranty

Lifetime was generous with their lifetime guarantee offering up to five years unlimited warranty. I feel the decision stems to give them a competitive advantage as a new cooler on the market. .

Yeti, on the other hand, have a tricky warranty; you have to read in between the lines to ensure you don’t void your warranty when using their coolers. Indeed, Yeti matches the 5 year warranty, but it’s limited. You have to read the warranty to understand the conditions involved.

Winner: Lifetime

Ice Retention

Lifetime cooler lives up to the name, but unfortunately, you can’t get ice for a lifetime here (pun intended). In many ice performance tests, lifetime performed better than some Rotomolded coolers. ‘

In the test, lifetime coolers performed differently according to the size. In fact, we noticed a pattern that the bigger models retain ice better.

Lifetime models were pre-chilled and the following results were achieved;

The 28 quart held ice for 5 days

The 55 quart performed better at 6.5 days and finally 77 quart outdid others with a whopping 8 days.

Compared to the Yeti, the yeti slighter outperformed each its equal lifetime model slighter in each of the test. Usually, a day is the most common outcome that divides both coolers, but we all know a day will make a big difference outdoors.

Winner: Yeti
